Our Nesters
-
Cesar
Congo African Grey
Cesar is one of our newer Nesters. He dazzles us with his beautiful red neck feathers, and his chatter throughout the day. He is always the one to say “Hello?” and “Goodnight”, and loves to dance and sing along. It has been a pleasure getting to know this little sweetheart, and he has been a wonderful addition to our flock.

Congo
Congo African Grey
Our lad Congo loves things calm and quiet. And that's just fine by us.
Congo has his share of medical concerns including self-mutilation, a wing injury from that self-mutilation, feather pulling, and chronic ulcerative dermatitis. Congo takes several medications and has regular vet visits to keep him as well as can be.
In spite of everything he's been through, Congo is bright, funny, and quite the dancer. We're so glad we can give Congo a safe place where he'll never be mistreated again.Congo is cared for by The Nest but resides and thrives at Night Owl Bird Hospital. Say hi to him in the waiting room on your next visit!
-
Goonie
Congo African Grey
A little bit about Miss Goonie - she's the sweetest! She's a great little talker with an angelic voice, especially when she says "hi". But golly does she also make some bodily function sounds that would make a sailor blush!
Goonie is a good little dancer but not a fan of us moving furniture around. Don't fret Goonie, we won't ask you to help.
We're so glad to be getting to know Goonie a bit more each day. -
Frank
Congo African Grey
Frank loves when you make a big deal out of him. He is a big grey, and really shows it when he fluffs all his feathers up! He loves little Rio and they often whistle together and make lots of fun noises. Frank has mastered replicating Rose’s high pitched screams as well, which our human helpers are definitely so glad for. Fun fact; even when out of practice, Frank is an excellent flier!
-
Phoenix
Congo African Grey
Baby Phoenix is one of our younger greys, still at about 17 years of age. He is a very sweet and sensitive guy. He loves dancing along, chanting the name of one of his favorite people “Bill”, and is an excellent whistler. While Phoenix can get nervous as some things, gaining his trust is so rewarding and we all love him so much.
-
Randy
Congo African Grey
This 32 year old shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Randy joined our flock after the passing of his owner who loved him dearly.
With recent concerns with his crop, Randy takes his medications with ease, but will let us know if he's not happy with our efforts to care for him! Randy will often tell us off but luckily we don't take it to heart.
This cutie pie loves to be busy with his toys and is working on a colourful vocabulary. -
Rio
Timneh African Grey
Cutie-pie Rio is another survivor of the WPR shut down and subsequent rescue. We don't know Rio's age or gender. We do know Rio is battling several medical matters including a heart condition, spinal arthritis, bacterial enteritis, and atherosclerosis. Rio takes medications to help with these issues, and we do our best to keep Rio happy and feeling safe and loved. Rio really enjoys her afternoon lay downs and is very particular who she gives her heart to!
-
Suki
Congo African Grey
One of our wonderful team members aptly describes Suki as a "little party to go" and that's perfect. Suki is in her 40's and is sassy and opinionated. She'll welcome a head scritch on her terms and we're here for it.
Suki will vocalize an adorable "ooooohhh" when something warrants it, and say "okkaaaaayyyyy" like the Valley Girl she might have been in a past life! -
Zeppo
Congo African Grey
Beautiful Zeppo is about 30 years old and she's always happy to "help" in The Nest kitchen. Maybe she knows that's where the treats are kept!
Zeppo loves a good mist bath and being out of her cage to explore and visit with the human helpers. Oh, and how she laughs. She also does a mean impersonation of a Papillon bark!
Zeppo shows how happy she is by letting her previously naked body heal and loves to show off her beautiful feathers to anyone that would like to see. -
Felix
Citron Crested Cockatoo
Felix means lucky in Latin, and we are so lucky to have Felix at The Nest.
Felix is a lady in her 30s who has a previous leg injury we monitor. Nothing really stops Felix from being a (mostly) chill little 'too who enjoys time on her cage balcony seeking head scritches from the human helpers. -
Katerina
Lesser Sulfur Crested Cockatoo
Katerina is such a sweet little cockatoo. Surprisingly quiet for her breed, she loves head pets and laying on the couch with folks. She also loves to soak in the sunshine and enjoys playing with her fabric or rope toys as if she is wearing a wig. Gotta stay in style! She is sure beautiful and has the most lovely personality to match.
-
Keiko
Moluccan Cockatoo
Keiko is one of our showstoppers. He loves attention and is always eager to show off. Keiko used to be a lot more shy, and was very well behaved, but recently he has been coming out of his shell and getting bossy. We love the confidence on him! Keiko wears a stylish pantsuit as a protective and preventative measure from self-mutilation, and he is so very good about changing and having time out of it every time. Keiko can get excited very easily, but we love to hear him whistle, sing and dance. He makes our hearts sing with him.
-
Leo
Citron Crested Cockatoo
Leo missed out on a career as a cartoon voice actor. If there is a character who sweetly says "whee" a lot, Leo is your guy.
Leo is about 20 years old and you better watch out for his food flying if he's not getting enough attention!
With his recent health concerns with his heart, Leo is a trooper taking his medications and chatting his way to the veterinarians for his check ups. -
Peaches
Moluccan Cockatoo
Peaches is one of our newest Nesters, joining our little band of Moluccans. These birds are so special and Peaches is no exception. We are all still getting to know her but she is sure the sweetest and has been settling in well.
-
Rio
Umbrella Cockatoo
Beautiful Rio is always very active. He loves to swing around and do pullups all day, despite him needing to put on some weight! Rio loves singing and music, and has a beautiful voice when he decides to join the ensemble.
-
Rose
Moluccan Cockatoo
Rose came into our lives following the closure and subsequent rescue efforts at the World Parrot Refuge.
Rose is a regular star on our TikTok page and with good reason. Her antics should be legendary.
Like many WPR birds, Rose deals with medical issues including depression and self-harm. Rose has a heart murmur and crop issues that mean she only gets soft foods.Rose is one of our most high maintenance birds, she is a full time job! We love her dearly and she’s got all of our numbers. We are there for her every need, because the world does revolve around this little princess.
-
Ziggy
Umbrella Cockatoo
Ziggy is our extravagant teenager that demands all of the love in the room. When Ziggy is not busting a move he is busy playing with his toys and sweet talking to all of our female Nesters. This bird is quite the ladies man and we are constantly trying to divert his attention!
-
Zoe
Citron Crested Cockatoo
Zoe came to us with Peaches, she is a very funny little cockatoo who wants all the attention in the world. She deserves all the love and we are so excited to continue to get to know her.
-
Sanchez & Gabriel
Scarlett Macaw, Blue & Gold Macaw
These two lovers are both DNA sexed males. This level of love and friendship is the stuff that melts your heart.
Gabriel is in his late 20’s and showing no signs of slowing down, with his incredible dance moves and constant high energy he keeps us on his toes. With Sanchez being the love of his life it is very clear to us that they can not be without each other for a second.
Sanchez definitely knows how loved he is and feels the exact same way. Sanchez has health issues ranging from his vision to recent issues with this crop. -
Mr. Cyrus & Rosie
Miligold Macaw, Greenwing Macaw
Gorgeous lad Mr. Cyrus is about 40 years of age and highly committed to his lady love Rosie. Mr. Cyrus is a big fan of showers, and any other excuse to show off his beautiful big wings. Every feather on Mr. Cyrus is like a little bit of iridescent magic and we're so glad to give Mr. Cyrus a safe forever home. What Rosie may lack in feathers, she makes up for in squawking! Rosie is over 50 years of age and her powerful beak and claws make her a great destroyer of toys. Once Rosie trusts and feels safe she is the sweetest most gentle macaw. If you ever question if birds are related to dinosaurs, Rosie and Mr. Cyrus will convince you!
-
Otto
Greenwing Macaw
Otto, or Otto-matic as we sometimes call him, is the sweetest macaw. He has such a gentle soul. He loves his daily bananas, and shows it! When he sees someone he loves he makes the most adorable of faces. This bird used to sleep in a little boy’s bed with him previously, which just goes to show what a softie and good boy Otto truly is.
-
Red
Greenwing Macaw
Semi-naked chicken Red is approximately 25 years old and an epic destroyer of toys. Dear Red lost his human dad a few years back and decided to come chill with us.
What Red lacks in feathers he makes up for with his magical voice.
He's a huge fan of 80’s rock and roll and when he's not trying to steal Rosie’s heart from Mr. Cyrus you can find him swinging like a bat and bossing his housekeepers around. -
Teresa
Blue & Gold Macaw
This beautiful senior came to The Nest following her rescue from the World Parrot Refuge. Teresa was adopted into Dr. McDonald's care due to her vast mobility issues, scissor beak and need for consistent love and routine.
Teresa loves time out of her adapted cage for floor walks, or just a nice chat with her human helpers -
Buckley
Yellow Naped Amazon
Buckley came to us after staying at the vet clinic for some time. He loves to listen to videos of other amazon’s singing, and will sing along with them too, it is so adorable! He loves getting misted and interacting with his humans. Buckley is such a sweet and expressive bird, we are so glad to have him with us!
-
Mickey
Red Lored Amazon
Mickey is definitely our little Mob Boss. Mickey has zero tolerance for any funny business and prefers that everyone exactly does their job.
Mickey appreciates the “hands off” approach to hanging out, and will do everything at his own pace. Mickey we believe is in his mid 40’s and like many an older fellow, he shows signs of arthritis. Fun fact; Mickey is a big fan of a mist bath! -
Finbar
Hahn’s Macaw
Finbar is currently our smallest Nester, a little mini macaw! We joke that she looks like Mr Cyrus, but shrunk. She is a little sweetie who loves to boss us around and tell us all what she has to say. Little Finbar hasn’t been with us long, but this little angel is so adorable and has stolen our hearts.
-
Ruby
Eclectus
Ruby is a beautiful Eclectus who came to us to retire after her years in showbiz at Bloedel conservatory. Ruby is very particular about who she likes, being very grumpy with some but such a love with the folks she chooses. It is lovely to see her come out of her shell even if it isn’t with everyone.
Adoption Stories!
Adoption Information
We predominantly serve birds that require the high degree of medical care that The Nest can provide. Occasionally we care for birds that could be better be served in a forever home environment.
None of the Nest birds are currently up for adoption or fostering.
When birds are available for adoption they will be posted on our Facebook page and on this website.
Thank you for your interest in adopting from The Nest.
Please consider sponsoring any of our birds in the meantime.
If a bird does become available for adoption from The Nest, this is our adoption policy:
We do not adopt birds out as gifts for another person.
You must be at least 18 years of age to adopt.
We do not place birds in breeding situations or adopt to breeders.
We do not allow any birds that have come under our care at any time to ever be sold, traded, given away, bred or used for any monetary purpose throughout their lifetime.
In order to adopt a bird from "The Nest" you must agree to return the bird to us, at no cost, if you cannot keep the bird for any reason.
We reserve the right to withdraw from the adoption process at any time with any applicant.
The most important part of our adoption process is that you must spend time with the bird to make sure it is a good fit for both of you.
We require you to visit the bird on numerous occasions so that you can get a sense of the bird on good days and bad days. During these visits, you will interact with the bird, play with the bird, move the bird in and out of its cage, as well as feed the bird and clean it's cage. These visits are mandatory and they are a requirement for adoption.
